Qualities desirable of an Astologer

Soon after my foray into formal education system of Astrology, I came across a Sanskrit Shloka laying out various qualities of an astrologer. I am laying it in english as it is and then we shall get on with its meaning:

Ganiteshu Praveeno yah shabdshashtrey kritshramah
Nyayvid Buddhimaan Deshdikkalagyo Jeetendriyah!
Uha-poh-patu Hora Skand Shravan Sammatah
Maitreiya! Satyatam Yaati Tasya Vaakyam Na Sanshayah!!

Ganiteshu Praveeno - Ganit is Mathematics and Praveen is Skilled. Together they mean that the scholar should be a skilled mathematician capable to mentally calculate numbers in a short time.

Shabdshashtrey Kritshramah - One who is articulate and diplomatic in usage of words and the inherent meaning they carry.

Nyayvid - A Person who is just and of balanced view. One who observes and decides impartially.

Deshdikkalaggyo - One who is aware of the times prevailing, forms of the society, values and customs prevalent at the time and of the place of the native.

Jeetendriyah - One who has controls over his senses. This is very important aspect and it is so because as an astrologer one is aware of the deepest thoughts prevailing in a natives mind. By exercising control over his senses the astrologer will be able to examine events and personalities in isolation and preserve his innerself.

Uha-Poh-Patu - Many a times, the complex rythms of planetary positions present conflicting views and the scholar has to then dwell over deeply and reach a conclusion. This requires ability to examine multiple angles, areas and stages of life and world, both material and spiritual and therafter reach a decision.

Hora Skand - Book of Astrology

Shravan Sammats - One who listens to it and memorises its predictive principles.

Further in the fourth line the sage advises that Words of such a person should never be doubted.

Modern believers - Imagine such was the deep thinking of our great sages.

Vedic Astrology - Beginners view

Have recently enrolled in the School of Astrology in Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan. The stream they pursue starts from very basic to research level astrology as prescribed in the ancient vedic texts. The school is run under very able guidance of Mr. K.N. Rao.

As a Hindu upbringing I have had my share of religious and cultural freedom that our great country and culture bestows on everyone who ever touches it. And also equally enjoyed religious rebellion during my teens. But all this while I had been a believer in the supreme being. Brahm as they call HIM. Was interested in Astrology and in the sub conscious never doubted the power of meta physical but suspected the men behind it. I am still right. Now that I myself am a student I see that the science is accurate, interpreters are not.

By the grace of my teachers and then by the grace of God, I now see a faint light coming out from Jyotish and the charts and numbers on the chart have started making sense. I have started feeling the chart albeit very faintly so, but I see the wisdom behind the words written somewhere "You should start feeling the chart and what it holds and the chart will reveal itself to you". I feel it has started to happen with me.

The feeling is amazing. I hope I shall be able to learn as much as possible and also use it properly.

Carbon Emissions and Our Planet Earth

Carbon Emission has slowly taken the centrestage w r t environment protection as more and more studies are being conducted on the impact of rising carbon content in the atmosphere. More fossil fuels burning releases harmful CO2 in the atmosphere and the entire ecosystem has slowly been absorbing as mush as it can and still more. The carbon content in the air, in the oceans is increasing and is now at such high critical levels that the changes in the sub terranean and oceanic plates have our foot prints. The cicilizations of future shall conduct research and will find that our civilization was smart enough to invent technology but was careless enough to not use it properly and thus brought about catastrophic changes in the climate and were then wiped out.

What an end to the serving, almost blind international community. Just a few days back I have been reading that a few developed countries did not agree for reduction in emissions just because it would hurt their economy, Of what use is the economy if there is no clean air, clean water and people cant walk in the nature.

Time to think and start working as the change can only be brought about by public participation in this direction. Governments alone can not and will not be able to do enough. Every citizen of the world will have to take onus and reduce his carbon print on earth.
